Creatinine test?!

Question:

Creatinine test?

I had a letter from my hospital today asking me to go for a blood test so they could check my creatinine level.

can anyone help with some more info on this test?
thanks x

Answers:

Simply put, creatine phosphate is stored in skeletal muscle and is used to generate energy; creatinine is the breakdown product of this process. Creatinine is then filtered by the kidney. Tubules in the kidney reabsorb (put back into the body) some creatinine, but the rest is excreted in your urine. If you have renal damage, the kidneys cannot excrete the creatinine and it shows up as an elevated blood creatinine.

Large intake of Vitamin C may show falsely elevated creatinine levels. Elevated creatining levels may also indicate renal problems (kidney damage).

But don't take my word for it completely! Read about creatinine at http://www.medicinenet.com/creatinine_bl...
