Can a healthy dog carry rabies?!

Question:

Can a healthy dog carry rabies?

That is to say. One dog bite you, you die for Rabies , but it can still live for many years!
In fact, I am confused by this question. Because we(China) never observe one dog for 10 days. Doctors say 4% health(even15-30%) dogs can carry Rabies! So all the persons bitten need to vaccine at once!!!

Answers:

Rabies is spread through saliva into the blood stream. Rabies kills with a month to six weeks, you cannot live for many years. It has an incubation period but once it comes on, It kills you fairly quickly. A human would die within a month, a small animal, like a rodant, a few days. The shots only work if they are taken within the incubation period, not after the rabies has taken hold. There have been very very few human survivors (like less than ten) of actualy onset of rabies, and no animal survivors. A rabid dog or racoon or other animal could still bite you before it shows symptoms. But to answer your question, yes a healthy dog can have rabies, if it has been recently bitten by a rabid animal, rabies has nothing to do with the general health of an animal. If it has never been exposed to another animal with rabies, no, it won't have rabies.
