Question: Can I get pneumothorax[lung collapse] from smoking!?
It seems fairly possible!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Pneumothorax is much more common in smokers compared to non-smokers!. Cigarette smoke seems to make the wall of any 'bleb' on the edge of the lung even weaker and more likely to tear!.

Most cases of pneumothorax occur 'out of the blue' in healthy young men, this is called primary spontaneous pneumothorax!. It is thought to be due to a tiny tear of an outer part of the lung!. Some Pneumothorax'a develop as a complication from a chest injury ( also called traumatic pneumothorax) The other cause is lung disease!. This is known as Secondary spontaneous pneumothorax!.

The Majority of cases occur in healthy young adults who do not have any lung disease!. It is more common in tall thin people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Smoking predisposes you to all lung malfunctions!. It does not spontaneously make it happen, but seriously increases the likelihood!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
