Gardasil vaccine and intercourse?!

Question:

Gardasil vaccine and intercourse?

I'm not sure if I have HPV, but either way I'm getting my girlfriend vaccinated for HPV for her protection. Can sex be performed after the first vaccination or do we need to wait for all shots to be completed before doing it? I dont want to risk my gf from getting HPV, even from me.

Answers:

The manufacturer states all three vaccinations are needed for protection. This is a new vaccine, so very long-term effects are still unknown; it is also unknown whether a "booster" may be needed (say 10 years later) to continue immunity. I have not yet met a physician, however, who says "don't get the vaccine". A tip for you: If you're not sure whether you have HPV, please be tested. Gardasil does not protect your girlfriend from syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, trichomoniasis, Hepatitis B and C, pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial vaginosis, pubic lice, and scabies.

A caution: Gardasil is intended to provide immunity from FOUR of the 100 types of HPV (30 of these are sexually transmissible). Two of these types cause MOST cervical cancer; the two others cause MOST genital warts. Please realize she can still contract cervical cancer and genital warts from some of the other types!
