Why do they tell you not to eat mashed potatoes if you have acid reflux?!
Question: Why do they tell you not to eat mashed potatoes if you have acid reflux!?
I was just diagnosed with chronic acid reflux disease, and I was looking around on the net finding out what I'm not supposed to be eating, because I have it all the time I don't have any personal "triggers" my stomach burns constantly!. Anyway, most of the websites I looked at said you couldn't eat mashed potatoes but you could eat baked potatoes!. Why is that!? I don't mash them with butter and I'm not lactose intolerant so the milk shouldn't bother me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've neither heard nor read that recommendation, that I recall anyway ;) Your stomach burning constantly is a little unusual for GERD, unless you also have an ulcer or esophagitis!.
I tried 2 different med types, can't recall their names, before going to see a gastroenterologist (GI)!. GERD and esophagitis were the cause of my constant agony!. The esophagitis requires stomach acid production to slow, in order to let the esophagus to heal itself!. I took a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) medication twice/day for about 3 months to relieve my pain!. I still take PPI once/daily and will continue for life (or until they come up with a better option)!.
I'd recommend speaking with your doctor about your medication & ask whether trying a PPI (such as Prilosec or Prevacid) will provide relief!. Of course, follow the special "digestive rules" to help prevent any additional irritation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have never heard you can't eat mashed potatoes if you have acid reflux and I have seen MANY doctors and been on every medication on the market that they have for this problem!. I now take Zegerid!. It is a powder you mix with water because I have Gastroparesis and the pills don't dissolve easily nor work very well!. I would go see a GI and see what they tell you to do!. Your stomach shouldn't burn from Gerd but it will from ulcers, I had ulcers as a teen!. I would get a second opinion and maybe some medication!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
