White eye discharge, redness went away with Visine-A, but still sore...?!

Question:

White eye discharge, redness went away with Visine-A, but still sore...?

I woke up this morning with white wet eye discharge in the corner of my left eye. The eye was slightly red and is still sore when I blink or hold it open, and it is light sensitive. I've had pinkeye before, and I remember more of a yellowy, crusty discharge... I also put in some Visine-A, and now the redness is completely gone, but it's still sore. I also took my contacts out... I sleep in them normally, but I went to the beach yesterday, so maybe something irritated it? And I had the window open when I slept.

But is this a normal allergic sort of reaction? For it to only be in one eye? Or should I make a doctor's appointment?

One again... I've had pinkeye/conjunctivitis, as I said, and it's more of a yellowy/green and crusty discharge from what I remember.

Answers:

Call your doctor and check. In the meantime, don't wear your contacts at all, and when it's all cleared up, use a new pair. It could just be an irritation, but it could also be an infection. Hold a warm towel over your eye for a few minutes every hour and see if that doesn't help with the discomfort. Good luck.
