Can I drink Alcohol on post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)?!

Question:

Can I drink Alcohol on post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)?

I'm now taking post exposure prophylaxis after a possible HIV risk.

I need to take Combid 300 twice a day for 30 days. Some doctors say I can drink alcohol and that it's not related and won't affect the efficacity of the drug. But some say not to drink...

Who should I beleive?

Is it ok to drink 2 hours before or after taking the tablets? How many beers can I consume?

Answers:

While physicians recommend not to drink while on anti-retroviral drugs you can drink a SMALL amount of alcohol while taking combid. I would recommend drinking at least 30 minutes after taking the pills as to minimize the amount of stomach irritation. I would also recommend that you limit your alcohol intake to no more than 5 drinks a week and no more than 2 in one sitting.
