My brother may have an eating disorder?!
Question:
My brother may have an eating disorder?
I noticed that he is eating less and less everyday. Now, it's almost like he's not even eating. All I noticed him eat today was a very small salad, and a little bit of popcorn. This may be some sort of diet, but when my father and I made him a really nice dinner, he refused to eat it. Instead he made up some bullshit excuse that the smell of caramelized onions make him feel woozy.
He ate a little bit, because he felt bad that we made the food for him. After, he went straight to the bathroom. I was listening to make sure he wasn't puking, but it did sound like he was.
I can be totally misunderstanding him, but he is 20-years-old now and five years my senior. I've asked him why he's not eating, and he replied, "I've been feeling fat". I have no right to tell him, or force him to do anything. And neither do my parents, right? He's not so easy to talk to, like a friend, so I don't know how to handle this.
How do approach him on this, and what can I do if he really does have a problem?
Answers:
It sounds as if you're genuinely worried about him.
If I were you, I'd take him to see a doctor as soon
as possible.
What you discribe above could be a developing
case of anorexia nervousa; and it is fatal, if it isn't
treated in time.
Good luck.
