If someone lives in a rat infested house can you catch a disease/ illness from them?
They say the rats have taken over, they hear them crawling on the walls. It has been over a year now, I thought they would have gotten rid of them by now, but it seems like the rats have become part of their family. It gets more bizarre, they talk about how one of them woke up with a dead rat on the bed which they think was killed by them rolling on it. Do you think it is safe for people to live like this? They also have children and a small dog.

NO it isn't safe to live like that, yes you can catch diseases from them, yes they can bite the kids and dog. Call the health department and help get those kids out of there.
