Can quitting smoking cause low blood sugar?!

Question:

Can quitting smoking cause low blood sugar?

I have been trying to quit smoking cigarettes for the past three weeks. I have smoked a total of about a pack since I quit, in three spurts. Two while driving a long distance, and once while hanging out and drinking with friends. I have not smoked a cigarette for two solid days now, and I happened to test my blood sugar with a family member's tester out of boredom (and curiousity) and I was right to do so when I pumped out a mighty 42 mg/dl. Maybe I did it wrong or something...but that's pretty damn low. I have a family history of diabetes so I am interested in finding out all I can without wasting time going to the Dr. Thanks everyone!

Cheers,

Dan

When you get a really strange reading like that, the first thing you should do is wash your hands, or wherever you got the blood sample from, and test it again.
Definitely a low reading. Did you feel shaky or dizzy or anything? If that number was correct, I'd think you would.

About the "trying" to quit smoking. Stop "trying" and do it, already. Either cold turkey or with a quit aid, like the patch, the nic gum, lozenges, or prescription Chantix. I used the gum, and quit after a 42 year heavy duty smoking habit.
