Question: Please help with this medical mystery!?
Symptoms:
- Chronic cough for over two months and still going
- Dry cough, sometimes producing white sputum
- Usually worse at night and in the morning
- A bit of wheezing (began a couple of weeks ago!.!. between 2 and 6)
- Hes had difficulty sleeping for a lot of his life!.
My Dad is 46 years old and is an ex smoker!. He quit smoking 2 years ago, he was a moderate smoker!.
He had a chest x ray & blood test!. All is clear!. He has no allergies and hasnt got asthma!.
He tried antibiotics, asthma pump with steroids, hay fever nasal spray!. Its not working!.
The cough itself isnt worsening, but hes coughing more freuqently!. Its a mild cough!. No coughing fits!.
Most people say it may be COPD, but he DOESNT have difficulty breathing!. He doesnt have chest pain, bloody sputum or tightness in the chest!.
Im so confused and the doctor doesnt know whats wrong either!. Please help! What could it be!? Is it bad!?!?!?

Common diagnosis' Ive come across are bronchitis and COPD!. Like I said, i dont think its COPD as theres no difficulty breathing, and its not bronchitis because he doesnt produce much sputum at all!. Although he does spit a lot, but from his mouth not coughing it up Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had a cough for almost 2 years since i ahd a bout with pneumonia, i am now 19, they diagnosed it as asthma and its not and than copd but its not, i have basically the same symptoms as your father, theyve tried everything on me, all the meds, tests but still dont know!. one doctor diagnosed it as a habit cough, google it for more info, that might be the case with himWww@Answer-Health@Com
basically many health problems is link to weak immune system !.having a cough means something is wrong somewhere!.build up his immune by doing exercise, proper supplementation and cut down on stress!.when your body is healthy every part will work smoothly just like a well maintained carWww@Answer-Health@Com
he may need to get a second or third opinion!. that could be a number of things from emphysema, COPD, bronchitis, walking pneumonia or even HIV!. pleurisy or sarcoidosis is another condition with similar symptoms!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
He should be tested for COPD, and also he should be tested for emphysema as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I don't want to scare you but he should get an HIV test just to be sure!. I have read in more than one place that coughing can be a symptom of HIV!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
