Why do inhaled steroids for asthma cause disorders?!

Question: Why do inhaled steroids for asthma cause disorders!?
I just recently read that someone had a sister who took a common asthma inhaled steroid and this drug caused her to develop symptoms of severe bipolar disorder and schizophrenia!.

How come this is possible!?

My brother is 5 years old, is this likely to happen to anyone, or him maybe!?

note: (he was diagnosed with chronic asthma!.!.!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Steroids as a drug class are known to sometimes cause psychological symptoms, mainly in the form or mania and/or depression, and can certainly cause symptoms that are much like bipolar disorder - in those who are predisposed to bipolar disorder, steroids have a higher risk of exacerbating the symptoms!. The link to psychosis (which is a primary symptom of schizophrenia) is similar, but not quite as strong!.!.!. it may be that the lady you heard about was already prone to develop schizo and the steroids mainly exacerbated the picture!.

Having said that, modern inhaled steroids are very well tolerated and are associated with very few side effects, although if one were on an inhaled steroid for a long enough time on a high dose, then it's still possible to develop these side effects!. In the case of your brother, if he is on a low dose, then the risk of these things would be very low!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
