Can I re-catch mono?!

Question:

Can I re-catch mono?

I was diagnosed with mono back in January. I was in the hospital for 3 days && out of school for a month. My glad (behidn my ear) has been hurting && has gotten swollen again. Is it possible that I may be re-catching mono? I have also been sleeping a lot again. Someone help, please!

Answers:

Your body produces antibodies to mononucleosis (Epstein-Barr Virus) so that you are not "reinfected". Reinfection has occured with mono, but it is very very rare. You do not mention your age, but it is possible you have cytomegalovirus; see http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/... to read about CMV. You may also have tonsillitis or a streptococcus infection. As your lymph node is swollen, you should see a physician for diagnosis; you may have a bacterial infection that can be treated with antibiotics.
