My 9yr old son has ADHD!. He has been dealing with it all his life!. Recently I tried medication Daytrana patch 15mg!. It has done wonders for him!. His reading is improving, he is ale to make friends, and he says he feels more in control of himself when he wears it!. My question is this!. I don't think he well ever e able to end his battle with ADHA!. I think he will have it for life!. What do people do in their adulthood to help them control their ADHD!? As an adult that has a mild problem with this, most of the restlessness disappeared as i got older (which made things much easier), and i have learned a variety of coping skills!. I was able to get through college and eventually earn a PhD, but i did not do well in college straight out of high school!. I didn't learn how to manage my behavior (focus my attention) until I was in my mid-20s!. Medications have offered very few benefits for me and they have not been helpful enough to outweigh the unwanted side effects!.

There's not much point in worrying about your son's future at this time - the effects of the disorder are likely to change in a variety of ways, but there's no way to know exactly how this will manifest itself when he is an adult!. New drugs are likely to come onto the market!. Even if the symptoms don't change much, he is likely to develop some degree of coping skills!.

For me, at some point, the distinction between ADHD symptoms and personality began to blur as an adult!. I no longer look at it as a disorder - it is part of who i am just like any particular aspect of anyone else's behavior!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
