I have heard you can go to some london hospitals without a referral and see and skin specialist for screenig skin cancers. Is this true? any information on this?

Yes you can go to any private hospital without a referal or a private dermatologist - you would have to pay though. To be seen under the NHS, you would need to go through your doctor.
