What is it about AA that works?!
Question:
What is it about AA that works?
Anyone who has been through AA and found it helpful, please tell me how it helped. What is it about the program that helps you stop drinking?
Answers:
Meeting sober people and filling time are about the only things that AA has going for it. Beyond that, it's mumbo-jumbo and faith healing with a lousy success rate. See:

AA didn't help me at all, in fact, it hindered my progress. I spent almost twenty years bouncing in and out of the program only managing a few months sobriety at a time. I had been taught that I was powerless, and that only God and AA could save me. I was also taught that if I drank again, I'd die.
Dying seemed preferable to becoming one of those people, so I'd go back to drinking, hoping it would kill me quick.
Finally I got some decent mental health help and took responsibility for my actions and didn't pick up again.
