my nephew has tried it today. yes we know he needs rehab but our concern right now is how long before he is done his high? he s 19 yrs btw.. and sis in law is royal upset. so help us out here how long this high last for he took 1 he says....

Answers:

It takes about an hour for the effects to 'kick in' and then it will last for hours, maybe 12 is a good estimate, but obviously it can be higher or lower. I dont imagine it could last for longer than a day, or at least I've never heard of such a thing. The actual length and intensity will depend on (1) how much he took and (2) how strong it is.

The best way to keep him safe is probably just to monitor him. Thus, the worst th ing you could do is make a big deal out of it and piss him off so he leaves and is out doing who knows what who knows where! Obviously a talk is needed, but dont try to initiate that conversation now when his mind is not in the right state to handle the conversation.

I say you should monitor him because acid is a hallucinagenic drug...thus he could see or hear things that arent really there and he may end up acting on these weird thoughts. You certainly dont want him to get into a dangerous situation.

I dont think its necessary to see a doctor about this, because I really dont think there is anything a doctor can do at this point...the acid has just got to run its course in his body. If this is his first experience with acid he will probably be fine health-wise. The more you take and the more frequently you take it will lead to more serious long-term effects. Lets hope he hasnt been doing this long-term.

About rehab...just to give a few ideas or pointers...dont stigmatize him or disrespect him...he's still a family member worthy of love and respect. Its hard not to get angry at the person, and a certain amount of anger is normal and healthy, but you certainly dont want to push him the other way, into deeper drug use. Also, you may consider setting up some counseling for him, because his behavior may indicate some psychological or emotional problems. We all get stressed, or sad, or angry, but we also all have different ways to handle it. A goal of his counseling should be to figure out the root of this behavior, and to think of better ways to cope. And for him to meet those goals and answer these tough questions the most important thing is for him to have a supportive, loving family behind him.

Good luck, I hope it works out alright.
