Lyme disease treatment?!

Question: Lyme disease treatment!?
I had a bulls-eye rash in early September and have just now found out that I had some positive results on a Lyme test (positive IgM Western blot, I believe, but other results were inconclusive or negative)!. My doctor gave me Amoxicillin to take three times a day for 10 days!. Is this sufficient to treat my Lyme!. I spoke with someone with chronic Lyme and she said I would need 6 months worth of Doxycycline!. I'm so confused and don't know who to trust!. A month after the bite I had migratory arthritis from my feet all the way up to my neck, but now it is just in my knees along with numbness in my legs!. Any thoughts!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you had begun the antibiotic program the day or so after you were bitten, you should be fine!. In my case, my doc waited for test results rather than give me a preventative or even "nut-case" 10 day treatment!. 8 weeks later, when I could not go outside or drive, I went on an 8 week amoxicillin 3x per day!. I thought I was fine for about 2 years!. That was 10 years ago!. If you do not stop everything else and get aggressive treatment, you will soon be forced to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The disease has two distinct phases, acute and chronic, both of which have highly variable symptoms!. The best known early symptom, the bull's-eye rash, affects about 80 percent of victims!. Other early symptoms can include all, some, or none of the following: headache, chills and fever, acute arthritis and sore muscles!. If not recognized or treated promptly, lyme can lead to neurological and cardiac complications!.
Treatments can be used: intravenous injections of ceftriaxone, a potent antibiotic or oral tetracycline for three weeks for full recovery and no recurrences!. And good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are getting low results on your lyme test you got it early and 10 days should work fine!. If you still feel if'y about it ask your Doctor to do another Lyme Test or give you another 10 days of another drug!. Your friend was not treated soon enough so they needed a longer treatment with a stronger drug!. I live in the Lyme belt of New Jersey and have had to be treated 11 different times, the longest treatment was 15 days but us guys respond better to treatment than girls do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would trust your doctor!. Each person reacts to something like this differently!. You may have had a different type of lyme disease then she did or it may have not been as severe although your symptoms may feel worse!. I would think that you should be fine but if you still do not feel better after the 10 days i would go back to see your doctor and explain to him that you are not feeling better!. Cathy, you're really asking the wrong people here!. You need to ask this of others with the disease and go see at least two other doctors!. It's better to get at least three to five opinions!. Go with the majority as they'd more than likely be correct with the knowledge they have! Check with younger doctors and older doctors as well! The younger ones might have some newer information, and the patients are good to ask as they have the disease and know what's worked for them!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lyme disease is a very complex illness, often complicated further by what are called "co-infections!." Many many people dealing with this find that 10 days of antibiotics simply are not enough to do the job!.

Recommend you learn as much as you can about this, so you can make the decisions you need!.

My 6 year old son had it & was on 21 days of antibiotics!. You definitely need treatment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are concerned go back to your doctor, or see a new one!.

"Lyme Disease
How is it treated!?
Lyme disease is treated with antibiotics such as doxycycline, amoxicillin, cefuroxime, azithromycin, and ceftriaxone!. When treated in the early phases, Lyme disease is curable in most patients with a short course (10 to 21 days) of antibiotics!. When treated early, patients often have a fast recovery!. Late phase Lyme disease is treated with longer courses of antibiotics (up to 28 days), and Lyme disease with nervous system symptoms including meningitis may require treatment with intravenous antibiotics!. Although most cases resolve following a 10-28 day course of antibiotics, treatment of Lyme disease does not always guarantee a cure!. Some patients suffer from the disease with persistent or recurrent symptoms for years!. Whether these individuals should receive repeat or prolonged therapy with antibiotics is currently controversial!."
