If I had a blood clot...?!

Question:

If I had a blood clot...?

How would I know about it?
I'm not a hypochondriac....(well maybe a little...lol) but I've been noticing that when I stand for a long period of time, I get a charlie horse behind my right knee. Do i just need more potassium? or am I at a risk for having a brain anyruism at any moment at time?

Thanks!

Answers:

Probably not a blood clot. My mom had a clot and didn't know it at first-she thought something at work must have hit her in the leg. It stung and swelled a little, so she thought it was a small injury. But it woke her up very early the next morning and she couldn't walk! Her leg was swollen for most of a year--she spent several days in the hospital too.
You should tell your doctor next time you go for a check-up. Until then, take your vitamins/minerals and drink enough water, then some sports drinks also.
There are exercises for people who have to stand long periods. You'd have to look those up-(library or internet.) Stretch your legs and/or rest every chance you get. See if you can get a padded rug to stand on. And invest in good shoes-I love running shoes. Get the salesperson to help choose what's best for you.
There are pantyhose like High Energy that help your circulation. I've used them, they really do work. And use those before you need the real support hose. My mom had to wear those too, they are terrible. (too tight and uncomfortable and get hot. They are so tight you have to lie on the bed and squirm into them, then you wear them all day, every day-YUCK) Also, do not wear knee highs or socks that cut into your legs and stop circulation.
Caffeine is also a culprit in blood circulation problems--cut down on it.
Live well, do good and love deep.
