Answers:
The biggest risk factor for developing an allergy is genetics: allergies definitely run in families!. Only 1 out of 10 babies will eventually develop an allergy if neither parent has allergies!. But if one or both parents have an allergy, then their baby is more likely than not to also develop an allergy at some point: up to 7 out of 10 of their children (or 70%) could develop allergies!.

A specific allergy is not usually inherited, but the tendency to develop allergies is often passed down through families!. If both parents have allergies, their child is likely to have allergies!. However, your chance of developing allergies seems to be greater if your mother has allergies!.

I actually have been reading about genetics and allergies, as my baby daughter has developed allergies and I was curious as to whether there is a link to the fact both her dad and I have allergies!. And sure enough there was!.

I have found that most of the sites repeat the same thing over and over, that yes genetics play a huge part in whether you will have allergies or not!.

Edit: the breastfeeding and delaying introduction to solid foods is a recommendation to possibly prevent allergies, as well as not eating the high allergen foods while pregnant!. I exclusively breastfeed my daughter until we introduced solid food at 10 months and she still developed allergies, peanut/tree nuts, penicillin, egg, milk, and wheat from what we have found so far, still waiting on allergy tests!. In our case genetics played a huge part in her developing allergiesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Also I read that during infancy, if you give solid food to babies too early (I forget how young) then they become prone to developing food allergies!.

And babies that weren't breastfed tend to have weaker immune systems so that might be another contributing factor!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
