88 year old uncle requires quadruple bypass surgery & mitrovalve replacement!
Question:
88 year old uncle requires quadruple bypass surgery & mitrovalve replacement what is his chance of survival?
The hospital here won't perform the surgery because they don't think he can survive it. He wants to go to Cleveland hospital because he is convinced they will perform the surgery. His heart also has an EF of 20%. What is his life expectance if he doesn't have the surgery? If he does have the surgery what are his chances of survival from the surgery and what would his life expectancy be after the surgery? I am telling him to not have the surgery and just enjoy his life to the fullest.
Answers:
If it were me or my spouse, I would not choose to have surgery. At 88 the risks greatly outweigh any possible lifespan increase. He is dying. But the surgery will not change that. He is simply near the end of his life. Enjoy the time he has left without the pain of surgery.
