How do you care for a PICC line?!
Question: How do you care for a PICC line!?
Yesterday I had a PICC line inserted!. No one gave me any info about how to care for it, what to watch for!.!.!.!.stuff like that!. I really want to take a shower, but I'm aftaid to get it wet!. Anyone have info for me!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Okay first off that is awful that they sent you home with a PICC and no directions!! Nursie is so disappointed in your medical establishment!
Are they setting you up with home health nursing to do dressing changes!? Basic home care is just to keep the area clean and dry!. You should not try to do the dressing changes yourself unless you or a family member get proper training to do that!.
So to your bigger question!.!.!. you can take a shower if you cover the site with plastic and tape all around it!. NO BATHS or hot-tubs!. Do not submerge the site in water!.
Things to look out for:
* Pain
*Fever
*A large amount of bright red bleeding (soaking the dressing with blood)
*Warmth, redness, or swelling along the arm or PICC line insertion site
~Any of these things and you should immediately seek medical help!.~

i recently had a PICC line in me for a while due to antibiotics!. It really sucks to have a PICC line !.!.!.
You could take a shower but just cover it with a plastic bag and then tape around the bag so water don't go in!. I'm surprised that they sent you home with a line w/out giving you proper directions on how to care for it!.
