Answers:
A bone marrow transplant IS a stem cell transplant, yes!. You would not be having two transplants back to back like that unless one failed!. Perhaps you have misunderstood!? Perhaps what is being said is that if they cant find a donor they will use your own cells!.

You need to speak with your doctor some more to find out exactly what is going on!. Bring a voice recorder and tape the session, as well as take notes!.

For the transplant you are in the hospital for around 6 weeks, and then in daily out patient care for about another 6 weeks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In the "older" days, the only way to receive a transplant of the stemcells from anybody (even yourself), would be to harvest the stem cells from the bone marrow, that's why it's traditionally called a "bone marrow transplant"!. These days stem cells can be harvested by giving certain growth factors (usually after a dose of chemotherapy) and collecting them via the peripheral blood (in a method called "pharesis"), so they are simply called "stem cell transplants"!. But they're basically the same thing!.

In terms of the source of the stem cells, either autologous (from oneself) or allogeneic (from another person), depends on the disease process!. Usually, in non-Hodgkin lymphoma, autologous transplants are usually done first because they are very safe in well-run transplant centers!. Allogeneic transplants are usually reserved for cases who failed autologous transplants or those people who's disease is felt to be unlikely to be helped by auto transplants alone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
