Anemia and Possible Depression?!

Question:

Anemia and Possible Depression?

Okay, I'm going straight to the point. I am a 13 year old female. I have been diagnosed with anemia about....... 4 months ago. Lately, like 1 month, I haven't felt the need to eat. I've been snacking on small things like two handfuls of chips or a couple granola bars. Things like that. And that's all I'll eat in one day. I don't want to force myself to eat because then that's all I'll do. I DO keep myself hydrated though.
Plus, I've been sleeping in for that past couple of days. About a week. I'll go to bed around midnight and wake up around 2 p.m. I usually can go through a day with only 8 hours of sleep.
And onto that, I really haven't been hanging out with my friends. I just want to be alone. Like there's no sense of going out. I usually lay around and watch TV or play my guitar.
Is it depression? If not, then what is it?

Answers:

Hey Jo Ann.
You are 13. How I miss those days!
You see, growing up is not as easy as people say. I know it and you know it probably better than me. This being the time of changes, your body and mind - both are trying to adjust to new things.
To be counted as depression, there are more than 7 symptoms, and you don't seem to have them all.
You say you had anemia 4 months back. Is it cured now? What is your Hemoglobin level now? If it is not normal, all the symptoms you are having - listlessness, tiredness, boredom, lack of sleep and lack of appetite - might be just your anemia. You might have been given Iron tabs. Complete the full course. And get your Hb level checked again.
Just make up your mind to have atleast one square meal in the day. These years are the constructive years for the body and mind. You will have to provide your body with enough food and activity to ensure that it goes on working smoothly ahead. Just don't worry about gaining weight right now. If you are willing you can control it.

You are brave enough to come out and accept something is wrong. I am sure you are also brave enough to sort it out.
