Question:

My wrist HURTS..can you please help me.. (any orthopedics out there?)?

Ok, for like the last 5 days, my left wrist has been hurting me, right on the part of the wrist below the thumb. It doesnt hurt when i move it up and down. ONly when i move it side to side. It hurts really bad when i open a door..to where i cant even turn the knob. It also really hurts if i try and pick something up...What do you think can be wrong. There is no swelling from what i can see. Please help.

These are good suggestions. Another thought is Ulnar Collateral Ligament injury, or Skier's thumb. Look it up. Have you had any recent trauma to the thumb? Your symptoms of not being able to open a door or hold a glass are classic for skier's thumb, also known as gamekeeper's thumb, especially if it feels unstable. It should feel better within a few weeks. This is no emergency, there's no need to go see an orthopedist right away. If you develop new symptoms or the symptoms get worse, like you develope numbness, tingling, or loss of function, I would go soon. Most of these things resolve on their own, however, if you indeed have torn your UCL, you have to have it surgically repaired. It is imperitive that you do this or you may lose permanent normal function. If you don't remember bending it really bad or any other insult to the thumb, it's unlikely you have this, but it's something to think about.
