Can cancer be determined by Doing a blood exam?!
Question:
Can cancer be determined by Doing a blood exam?
Or do people usually need other kind of tests?
Answers:
There are something like 230 different diseases classified as cancer. Leukemia and lymphoma are blood cancers that can be detected in the blood. Other tests are necessary if white blood counts are in excess. Specifically a bone marrow aspiration. There are other tests for other cancers. For instance, in prostate cancer a biopsy is necessary to determine a Gleason score--how bad the cancer is. Many other cancers require biopsies, mri's and various other scanning techniques as well as complete blood work. In short, there is not definitive test for cancer since there are so many different diseases.
