Answers:

Most likely, it is not your heart that is hurting, but your esophagus. They are in the same area, and people often think they are having heart problems when really they are having GI problems (gastro-intestinal). Of course, the only real way to find out for sure is to go to the doctor.

There is something called GERD - gastro-esophageal reflux disease - where foods that people eat back up into the esophagus, causing pain and even heart palpitations. This is especially made worse when you eat high fat foods, like butter. When we eat, food goes down our esophagus and into our stomach; there is a little flap between the esophagus and stomach that closes after our food gets into the stomach, so it can't come back up again. In some people, this flap becomes weak and doesn't work, and food backs up into our esophagus, causing us pain, nausea, and other problems. It gets worse if we lie down or bend over.

Also, it makes a difference if you are eating your own buttered popcorn or if you are eating what they serve in movie theaters. Their butter is more chemical than butter, and you may be having a reaction to whatever is in it

If the buttered popcorn is the only thing that is causing you a problem, you probably don't have GERD, but are having a bad reaction to that particular butter. If so, bring a sample of it to the doctor, so the lab can check it; the doc can also check you for allergies. You may have to give up eating buttered popcorn. But first make that visit to the doctor. Good luck.
