Question: My son has type 2 diabetes and was just diagnosed!?
In 5 weeks he lost 20 lbs and is eating low carbs and exercising!. His blood sugar has gone down but with 1000 mg of Metformin his insulin level is up high still!. I think they will increase the dose:
1) Why won't his insulin level go down with the metformin!?
2) Why are his testosterone levels off (is this normal!?)
3) He goes to the Joslin diabetes Clinic in Boston for all his appointments!. What have you heard about it!?

His insulin is most likely up because his insulin resistance is still high!. Metformin can only help with the resistance issue!. Insulin production is triggered by high blood sugar, and Metformin can only help bring sugar down, not insulin!. Once the blood sugar is down, the insulin levels will go down naturally!.
You haven't really given enough information to make an accurate evaluation, but I would say, keep the low carb diet going, keep him exercising and losing weight, and learn all you can about this!. The Joslin clinic isn't the only place that has information on this!. I'm self taught!. I wouldn't worry about the insulin levels right now!. Worry about getting his insulin resistance down!. I can help you with that!. Don't ever let them prescribe sulfonylureas!.!.!. they will wear out his already overworked pancreas!. How old is your son!? Type II diabetes was formerly rare in children and teens, but with the obesity epidemic, more and more cases are being diagnosed!.

the more he loses weight, the better he gets!. once he is back to normal body weight, everything would falls into it's place!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
