Why do people judge and criticize an anorexic before they would an alcoholic or !

Question:

Why do people judge and criticize an anorexic before they would an alcoholic or drug abuser?

All are health risks and I say help those in need with compassion, not judgment.

Answers:

I don't know that "people" would necessarily do that. I think that being a sensitive person or being biased to begin with makes you think that people are focused on the negativity of anorexia.

personally, i don't criticize for it...but I do expect like with any disorder that the person is helpless to some extent

the difference for me........

please read this closely!

anorexics hurt themselves physically and emotionally tear their families apart out of WORRY

drug addicts and alcoholics do the same but also risk other peoples lives when they drive, work, and try to function while under the influence.

one is illegal one isnt

one hurts society while the other mostly hurts the individual!

i think you should reevaluate your own opinions before you say that most people would judge anorexics before addicts

because you are forgetting the shear amount of pity that most people in society have now for anorexics especially in this time

if what you are referring to is how the media focuses on women that they suspect are anorexic. they in fact are focusing on the negative image they give to others...they portray themselves as being Healthy and Skinny...and in fact....their "look" is one of sickness!

in that light I can understand your evaluation............

but that it ONE circumstance!

Try being fat due to an eating disorder! the amount of negativity that you get is tenfold!
