Holter monitor analysis methods?!

Question:

Holter monitor analysis methods?

When you have a Holter monitor fitted, are there any exceptional cases to which a cardiologist would feel that they do not need to look at candidate areas worthy of study by a technician?

Surely it is by default that they would look for candidate areas to which there could be arrythmias found.

This cardiologist does not seem to have look at this aspect of the recording.

Why?

Answers:

If I am understanding your question correctly ,you are asking why the cardiologist only looks at what the technician supplies them with after they print out the grafts etc., from your holter monitor recording.

The technician is trained to see abnormal rhythms and other things on a holter monitor recording. They print out these and give to the cardiologist for review. The technician only prints out or shows the cardiologist if there is something abnormal on your recording and then the cardiologist interprets your holter monitor recordings from there.

Why? Unfortunately, that is just the way it is done most of the time. I defintely see your point that a technician could have missed something very important. But I can say that these technicians are trained very well also.

I use to work in a cardiology department at a hospital. I had to take several courses on rhythms, blocks, being able to see if a person had or is having a heart attack etc and so forth. At the time I did this you did not have to have a degree or anything like that, you were just taught. Not that I agree with a "putting your life or your heart monitoring in the hands of a technician", but most are well trained, but then again a technician is not a cardiologist. I definitely see your point.

Again, I do agree with you that a technician could have missed something. Maybe you should discuss this with your cardiologist also and tell him you are concerned by this method and would like for him/her to look at everything themselves.

Best wishes.
