Warfarin/Cumoudin makes My Grandmother Sick.?!

Question: Warfarin/Cumoudin makes My Grandmother Sick!.!?
Everytime she takes those bloodthinners, she gets sick!. She starts having migraines, which makes her vomit uncontrollably!. I'm living with her because I was having problems at home with my mother (in Michigan)!. I'm seriously contemplating going back to my mother because I just can't deal with my grandmother being sick and going back and forth to the hospital!. If Warfarin/Cumoudin makes her sick the way it does, why can't her doctors find another medicine for her to take!? The bloodthinners make her more sick than she's ever been!. She needs to do somethWww@Answer-Health@Com

You don't say why she is on the blood thinners, and when you say the blood thinners, do you mean she is taking both!? If I was you I would suggest she get another opinion!. Coated full strength Aspirin I would think would do her as good!. No wonder that poor thing is sick and vomiting!. Maybe a different hospital also!. I wish I could tell you more young one, but hopefully someone different out there will help her more!. Poor thing is probably bruising every time she bumps her arm or hand!. You're right, she needs to do something, but older folks have a tendency not to change anything!. They have faith in their Doctors and no one can tell them different!. Good luck and wishing you and your Grandmother the very best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What warfarin side effects should you monitor!?

When you take warfarin, your blood won't clot as easily!. If you accidentally cut yourself while taking warfarin, you may bleed heavily!. You're more likely to have bleeding problems if you're older than 75 or take other medications that can further increase your bleeding risk!.

Notify your doctor right away if you experience any of these warfarin side effects:

* Severe bleeding
* Bleeding from the rectum or black stool
* Skin conditions such as hives, a rash or itching
* Swelling of the face, throat, mouth, legs, feet or hands
* Bruising that comes about without an injury you remember
* Chest pain or pressure
* Nausea or vomiting
* Fever or flu-like symptoms
* Joint or muscle aches
* Diarrhea
* Difficulty moving
* Numbness of tingling in any part of your body
* Painful erection lasting four hours or longer

Other less serious warfarin side effects that you should tell your doctor about include:

* Gas
* Feeling cold
* Fatigue
* Pale skin
* Changes in the way foods taste
* Hair loss

Although rare, warfarin can also cause skin tissue death (necrosis) and gangrene requiring amputation!. This complication most often happens three to eight days after you start taking warfarin!. If you notice any sores, changes in skin color or temperature, or severe pain on your skin, notify your doctor immediately!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a patient that became a little confused and less coordinated on coumadin and would have falls, and even had a seizure while on it!. My own opinion is that your grandmother's and my patient's reactions were a rare side effect: tiny bleeds in some capillaries in the brain!. Most people don't have this problem and what other side effects they experience are less important than the condition the med is trying to protct against: blood clots that can move to the brain, causing strokes, the heart causing heart attacks or lungs!. These conditions are life threatening, so it takes a lot to outweigh their use!. But this rare side effect could be a reason to find an alternative!. Ask her doctor what other blood thinner is recommended to replace coumadin!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Is she taking ONE pill daily!? Is she taking any aspirin with the warfarin!? If she is overdosing this may cause problems that you mentioned!. Does she go to the anticoagulant clinic!? How often is her blood draw to check her INR levels!? Normal INR range should be between 2!.0 to 3!.0!. Diet,exercise or activity and other medications will alter INR levels, that includes over the counter medications and herbals!. No green tea, no cranberry juice!. Tylenol is the only medication you may take but not continuously!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
