Mother diagnosed with breast cancer.?

My mother was told today that she has breast cancer. I work in the medical field and am about to go into studying nursing. I would like advise from any person that has been diagnosed them selves or is in my situation. I just would like to know how I can support her the best way possible for the both of us. Also, her husband, my stepdad, of 26 years JUST passed away in March, and this was supposed to be when she was going to be able to do all the things she couldn't because he had been ill and she couldn't get away. Any advice???? I've been so hardened by the profession that now my emotions are about to go in bizerk mode and I don't know what to say or do to comfort her and help myself!!!

I have worked in the ER for 4 years and see this happen, just didn't expect it NOW and with no familial history. I am informed and have the latest information at my disposal. My main concern is for her, going through so much just after loosing my dad. My second concern is for me and my kids, young and worried about the closest grandparent they have. She has the type of cancer related to (now defunct) estrogen therapy from years ago. She will have a mastectomy, and is not worried about that. The disease I understand (if you can understand cancer at all). I can help her physically and we have people to aid her (family, church) with any needs at home. I am the daughter she has nearby. I just wonder what has helped those in HER situation the most.
