Do Hand Sanitizers/Anti-Bacterial Hand Soaps Really Work?!

Question: Do Hand Sanitizers/Anti-Bacterial Hand Soaps Really Work!?
An article in our newspaper said anti-bacterial cleaners made for the kitchen/bathroom don't have enough anti-bacterial ingredient to really work so I was wondering about the hand cleaners!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Hand sanitizers do work!.

I've heard the story about anti-bacterial soap not being "anti-bacterial!." Regular hand soap works just as well!. My dad's a paramedic and the reason some soaps have anti-bacterail on the label is to get people to buy them!. And it works!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If the content of alcohol is correct, they work!. There are alcohol rubs and alcohol gels!. As long as the alcohol content in rubs is greater than 60%, they're effective!. As long as the alcohol content in gels is 70% and greater, they're effective!. The best concentration is 70 to 95%!. Most products made for home and travel use are effective!.

I'm not sure what you mean by antibacterial cleaners for kitchen/bath!. Liquid hand/dishwashing soap!?

Hand sanitizers have not become the gold standard!. Not yet anyway!. The very best way is still soap, warm water and 15-20 seconds of friction because this works to remove C!. diff from the skin whereas alcohol rubs do not!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes Hand sanitzers work!.

As a paramedic I use them constantly and they are made readily available to us in both our vehicles and in the hospitals!.

Everywhere you walk in the hospital there are bottles mounted on the walls with signs asking staff, patients and visitors to use them regularily!.

Hand Sanitizers have actually become the "Gold Standard" for hand hygine in the health care industry!.

So!.!.!. continue using them as they work and will help you avoid getting sick! There are even lots available out there that are alcohol free so they don't dry out your hands or have the strong alcohol smell!. (we have just switched to it and it's GREAT!)

Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Interesting answers you've gotten to your question!. Different sides of the fence for a nurse and EMT!. Myself, I've always preferred a anti-microbial hand sanitizer myself!. I am after the microbial little devils myself!. Wouldn't wanna touch those answers between professionals and all kinda curious on how they feel about anti-microbial thou!. druskiWww@Answer-Health@Com
