Could it be lung cancer?!

Question: Could it be lung cancer!?
Please help me!. I'll be forever greatful!.

Does this sound like cancer to you

-Chronic cough for over 5 months now

-Used to wheeze but not any more

-MAYBE!.!.!. MIGHT have coughed up blood, not too sure!. I saw a dot of blood on his pillow!.

-Dry cough, sometimes sounds like he has phlegm but he doesn't!.

-Worse at night but still occurs in the day too!. Some days are better than others!. The cough is mild!. Not serious!.

It's my Dad I'm worried about!. He doesnt have asthma or allergies!. Hes 46 and a ex smoker!.

He's had chest x ray, blood test lung capacity test!. They were all normal!.

I know lung cancer is hard to detect early on, but could he have it!? What else could it be!? Considering conditions with and without the hemoptysis!?

Also, hes tryed antibiotics, cough syrup, acid reflux meds, cod liver oil, nasal spray and asthma pump with steroids!.

He isn't on any heart meds or any other meds so it's not that!.

Every night I lay in bed listening to see if he coughs and I worry!. I can;t sleep at night!. PLEASE help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Darling if all those tests were normal then there is absolutely nothing to worry about!. Even in early stages at least one of those tests would have shown something!.

Has your dad had any particular worries lately!? The reason I ask is that it is possible to have a nervous cough which is usually dry, tickly and loud!.It will often get worse at night on lying flat!.

The blood I believe in unrelated!. If he had haemoptysis he would be coughing up blood all the time, not just a little spot!. That could have come from anywhere, a little scratch, anything!. Also coughing up blood is rarely related to lung cancer, more to TB and if he has had blood tests that would have been detected and the lung capacity test would have been a poor result!.

Main symptoms of lung cancer are:

If the person has a long term cough there will be a change in it such as suddenly producing sputum, or becoming dry if it was previously chesty, fatigue, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, breathless, pain on breathing or coughing!.(Remember though if someone has had a cough for a long time they might well get pain anyway from the constant force of coughing so that in itself is not necessarily a sign of cancer!.)

Please Jay, I know what it is like to panic about a parent's health and how scary it is but I can absolutely assure you that it would have been detected by now if he has had the cough for as long as five months!.

There is no way that he would have a clear chest x ray, a normal QV(lung capacity) and a normal blood count if he had lung cancer so put that thought totally out of your mind!.

If there had been any doubt at all he would have been called back for a CT or MRI scan!.

I hope I have been successful in reassuring you,

love Mel!.XWww@Answer-Health@Com

It could just be post-nasal drip at night!. He could have chronic allergic rhinitis, which is annoying but not fatal!. He could be developing COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) from his years of smoking!. Whatever it is, you need to stop worrying because your worrying won't affect or improvie his condition in any way; it only deprives you of sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think if he had lung cancer it would have been picked up by the xray like a shadow on his lungs or something,no doubt he has had blood tests done which can give an indication of cancer in the body!.maybe he has asthma but he should go back and pester his doctor for an answer maybe he has an allergy to something!.i hope he is better soon though as you are so worried about him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When my dad was diagnosed he didn't have any of these, but he did find a lump in his neck!. If cancer is a concern, your dad should have his doctor check his lymph nodes!. That can be a good way to detect cancer early!. I would guess emphysema, but if his X-rays are normal I don't think that'd be it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know but something to look at!. Ask your dad if it feels like a tickle in the back of his throat that is cosing him to cough, now that he has been coughing for so long he my be relay sore and irritable in his chest!.Se if he can remember where this started from!.Smoker's damage their esophagus area and it causes them to have a really strong urge to cough and it can lead to what you describe if they can not control their cough!. If this is the root of the problem doctors can fix this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
