Forever!. Some people never get symptoms, even though they were exposed to the virus!. Some have it tenfold!. The virus hide out in the nerve cells and certain triggers like stress, sickness, pms, can trigger it and it comes out of hiding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Dormant isn't really the right word here, as if you have herpes in your system you do shed it and you can spread it!.
However, some people go years (or their entire lives) without a noticeable outbreak!. Some people have such mild outbreaks they never notice them- sometimes it's just tingling, sometimes just itchiness that gets attributed to dry skin!.
