MS Question?!

Question:

MS Question?

I know someone who is in her late 20's - early 30's. She says she has MS and drives a SUV with a handicap decal embeded on her license plate. She dresses very nice and wears 3-4 inch high heels and is in good physical shape. I'm assuming that her MS must be mild. Are there different various of MS? Serious answers please.

Answers:

I'm 29 years old and I have Multiple Sclerosis - as does my sister. There are a few different types of MS such as Relapsing-Remitting, Primary-Progressive, Secondary-Progressive and Progressive-Relapsing. I have Relapsing-Remitting. I suspect she has this form, too, as it's more mild. She can have periods of remission where she feels great. However, just because you're in remission one minute doesn't necessarily mean you'll stay that way the next minute.

My sister (early 30s) has Seconday-Progressive. She can barely walk, has lost a lot of bladder control and even have a morphine-baclofen pump in her abdomen.

Both her and I have handicap placards for our cars.

As for the answer of the individual that says "MS is deadly" is misinformed. There is a very rare form of MS that can kill you and it kills you quickly. Most MS patients live long lives.

Just because one has MS doesn't mean they can't dress for success and wear high heeled shoes and nice garments. I imagine her self-esteem can be very low at times so she gives herself a boost and dresses nicely.

I'm in pain everyday but no one can really notice. Younger folks with MS have to learn to hide their symptoms because they don't want to be thought of as less than a person because she does have it. She'd never want to give the impression that she's not capable of doing her job.

If you're really that interested in the hows and whys, you should ask her. The more you know about MS and it's symptoms the more you'll know that it takes a strong willed individual to keep on keepin' on with the knowledge that you have something that doesn't have a cure.
