Oh dear Skye you do worry! UTIs are common in adult females. They are really caused by the design of female anatomy. The proximity of the urethra to the anus is the issue. The bugs have only a short walk to reach or be brushed into the urethra. This can often be brought about by intercourse as well. The are rare in men due the much greater separation of the the 2 orifices.
The bladder, ureters and kidneys have no direct communication with the reproductive system so fertility cannot be affected. However if the infections are left untreated or repeatedly ascend to the kidneys they can produce scarring and kidney damage.
