Brother Diagnosed with TB.?!

Question:

Brother Diagnosed with TB.?

Everyone In the family is being asked to be tested. We are all concerned for my brother but how concerned should we be for ourselves? What's the likelihood that he's spread it. I'm pretty sure he's recently gotten it because he started feeling symptoms of something and he immediately went to the doctor who then stated he had tuberculosis.

Answers:

Everyone in the family will test positive on the skin test. Everyone will have to get other tests. Some of you may just have inactive TB.

If you do have inactive TB and your immune system is normal, you will have a very small chance of the inactive going into active TB.

That is without taking the medication.

If you take the medication, you have a next to nothing chance of your inactive TB ever becoming active.

There are people who choose not to take the medication.
