I also have it!. In 1999 half of my thyroid was removed because I grew a very large goiter from the lack of taking in any iodine!. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which there is an excess of Thyroid hormone!. Hypothyroidism, that is what you said you have, is a condition in which there is insufficient Thyroid hormone (a weak Thyroid or a lack of Iodine or Tyrosine in the system!. In this-condition, the body tends to feel cold and the individual becomes puffy faced, obese, sluggish, dull-witted, and in extreme cases a simi-vegetable!. Other hormones produced by the Thyroid are Trijodothyronine, which influences physical and mental growth, and Calcitonin, which prevents a build up of calcium in the blood by balancing the hormone from the Parathroid, which maintains blood levels of Calcium by drawing Calcium from the bones and teeth!. Through research it is believed that many "weak" Thyroids are actually strong, but their "controller", Pituitary, is malfunctioning causing the Thyroid to malfunction also!. So, in determining the cause of the Thyroid problem, be sure to check the Pituitary gland!.
