Did the Doctors screw up? and if so, what should I do?!

Question:

Did the Doctors screw up? and if so, what should I do?

My wife and I took our 19 year old son to the Hospital ER for Tightness in his chest, Cough, and Shortness of breath. No x-rays were taken. he was diagnosed with bronchitis given prescriptions and sent home. 2 days later is back in ER for Vomiting, Diarrhea, and Abdominal pain. a CT scan is done. the Radioligist says there is an Illeus of the Bladder. But also sends a note to the Er Doc that he saw something in the lower lung. but the Doc disregards this and starts treating the bladder. he is admitted and given Morphine for pain, Then given Narcan because of an apparent allergy to the morhine. (he was breathing very shallow, and was turning blue around the lips and earlobes) 2 hours later My Son dies. the Death Certificate says the cause of death was ......... Acute Congestive Heart Failure as a result from ........ Dialated Cardiomyopathy.

Answers:

Cardiomyopathy is common in young males. I am sorry for your loss and can also understand your frustration. I think that every patient I have seen with this type of condition is usually too far gone for medical treatment to make a difference. Were you aware of the heart condition? And did you make the ER aware if you were? They did what they should to treat the Morphine Allergy. My best suggestion is to consult an attorney who can pull the entire medical file and all the tests. Seeing everything sometimes paints a much clearer picture. Again I am sorry that this happened.
