Question:
Stroke victims? my husband had a damaging stroke 2 yrs. ago and his speech and his right arm are still greatly
affected. what I want to know is about brain damage? He seems to be half the man he use to be --but can understand most things and laugh, cry and seems he lies also--he was like this before so I don't know if he's changed that much or not
Answers:
Strokes effect different people different ways. It seems to depends on what areas were affected by the stroke and how much damage was caused. I have seen some get movement back, and others that don't. Some that like your husband retain mental function, and others that don't. There still are alot of things that are not clearly understood about the brain and it's functions.
"The types and degrees of disability that follow a stroke depend upon which area of the brain is damaged. Generally, stroke can cause five types of disabilities: paralysis or problems controlling movement; sensory disturbances including pain; problems using or understanding language; problems with thinking and memory; and emotional disturbances."
