Unfortunately, there is no cure for diabetes. It can be managed and controlled, but it will not go away.
While medicine and research are rapidly advancing and scientists are moving closer to a cure, it is unknown when one might possibly be found. Believe me, there are thousands of people out there who anxiously await one...myself included.
The vast majority of diabetics are type 2 (roughly 90%). The remaining 10% are type 1 (like me). Type 2s can generally manage with diet, exercise and oral medications. In some cases, type 2s take insulin. Type 1s must take insulin to survive. The option to manage with just diet, exercise and oral medications isn't there.
I hope that one day, there will be a cure. I never wanted this and I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It's a difficult disease to live with and it affects all aspects of life. I've been diabetic for many years and while I've learned to deal with it, I wish it had never happened to me.
