Does red wine colour urine?!

Question:

Does red wine colour urine?

I ask because first thing this morning my urine was a strange colour - darker and not exacty red but bordering on it. Had a couple of glasses of very strong red wine last night and I'm hoping that's what has caused this. Been back to loo since and now looks normal. Sorry if this all sounds a bit personal! I have searched the web and all I can find is that beets cause red urine but don't see a mention of red wine having same effect....I don't want to be running off to doctor for something like this if there is a simple answer.

Answers:

In my experience red wine does not colour urine, what does happen is that is makes the urine strong which causes discolouration due to dehydration. Drink plenty of water to wash out your kidneys and if all returns to normal do not worry however if you have a recurrence of the problem you really should see your doctor. If you have another couple of glasses of strong red wine drink a pint of water before you go to bed. (Also in my experience it is not good to drink coffee or tea late after drinking as both drinks add to the problem of dehydration.)
Hope all goes well for you
