Question:

I have been sick for over a month. I have been to the Dr. twice. I need some advice.?

At first I had a severe ear and sinus infection. I was given an antibiotic that didn't work and after a few days they put me on two different ones. About 6 days later I started feeling better. It is now over a month and although my ears don't hurt anymore, my sinuses, throat and body still hurt. The glands in my throat feel swollen and I just have an over all horrible feeling. I am getting married in a little over a month and I can't even finish planning my wedding because I don't want to get off the couch. I think that its ridiculous that I'm not better and I'm pretty angry with the Dr. for not figuring out what the problem is. Someone please help. What can I do? How do I get rid of this?

Answers:

I get sinus infections all the time, and the antibiotics have basically stopped working for me. My husband found a medical guide that recommends nasal irrigation using a saline solution (salt water, luke warm). You can buy an irrigator at the pharmacy, like they have for cleaning out babies noses. It really seems to work! I too have been sick for a very long time with throat and sinus and chest problems, stress really depletes your energy and sinus infections make you susceptible to other illnesses. It is also possible that the actual infection was cleared up but that you caught a head cold as well. Antibiotics are not necessary for head colds. Try the nasal irrigation and take some over the counter cold remedies and see if after 3 days you feel better or not. Then you can decide whether or not to go to the doctor.
