Well, yesterday.. My older sister went to the doctors and got an exray because she was having back problems. The doctor said that the bones of her lower back were all deformed from excess growth... She's 24 and has had occasional back aches, and when she gave birth, her hip went out...

But the doctor didnt tell her anything about it. All she said was that she'd never seen anything like it before... And that it was a deformity?

Answers:

There are a few things that could cause excess bone growth, including spondylolisthesis and spina bifida (which are very rare). But one of the more common occurrences happens when the sacrum fuses. The sacrum is a set of five bones right above your tail bone. When born, the saccrum is still 5 distinct bones, but as you grow, they fuse together and become one large bone system. Sometimes during this process, extra calcium deposits form around the sacrum and cause bony extrusions.

If you have any concerns, feel free to talk to your orthopaedist. They could point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps!
