Liver problem?!

Question:

Liver problem?

Hello all

I did a blood test after a recent urgent incident, and this was noticed:

Iron level was 15 Ug/dl ,where the reference range is 25-156 Ug/dl

So my Iron is very low.

Also the Urea was 14 mg/dl ,where the ref. range is 15-45 mg/dl ,so it's a bit low

C-Reactive Protein (it's a protein in the liver) was 31 mg/L, and it was very high, because the normal level is considered below 10 mg/L!

So this all seems to be liver related and I'm kind of scared! :|

Are these any symptoms of any danger on the liver?

I am 16 years old,that's why I'm worried.

thanks very much!

Answers:

If you were tested after an accident in an emergency situation, it can throw off certain tests and some levels of proteins, etc.
For optimal results, you need to fast prior to blood work so that your levels aren't thrown out of wack by your body processing fats or other substances in your system introduced by drinking or eating.
Also, stress can definitely cause certain levels to fluctuate, including liver enzymes.
If you had anything serious to be concerned about, your doctor would have talked to you about it. If your liver enzymes are out of wack, it can be caused by trauma to the liver (even bruising), a viral infection such as hepatitis or too much pain reliever even.
Call your doctor's office or the office of the attending physician in the ER and ask about your results and see if a follow up is needed. If you are still worried about it, call your family physician and ask to set up blood work tests. They'll have you fast for a period of time before you come in and it'll give them much more accurate readings.
At that point, if your liver enzymes are still high, they may need to do further tests.
Since you're young, I wouldn't worry about it too much. A lot of liver damage is brought on by things like alcohol abuse and acetametaphin abuse (say, being addicted to something like vicodin which contains that drug). Livers are very resilient and can heal themselves to a degree. Even hepatitis can be successfully treated these days and the younger you are, the more likely you'll get a positive outcome.
There are natural liver cleansers out there such as milk thistle but I wouldn't take anything until you've had your blood work reread and then I'd just follow the doctor's orders. If he sees something on there that needs attention, he'll definitely point it out.
