Answers:

The problem with resistance is that once a strain of bacteria is resistant against an antibiotic it's just plain resistant. At that point you need a new antibiotic.

What can be done is reducing the speed they become resistant.

-By taking the entire prescribed dose. Often resistance occurs in stages. A gene might partial protect a bacteria then when it's combined with another gene, or the gene mutates a bit more you get a resistant strain of bacteria. By taking the full dose for the full length of time you will kill off even those bacteria with partial resistance.

-Don't take antibiotics unless you really need them. Often people with a cold will go to their doctor, and demand antibiotics. (Colds are the result of a virus not bacteria.)

-Pass laws to prevent the use of important antibiotics in cattle, sheep, and the like. Most cattle raised in the US are given antibiotics in their feed. Over time this results in antibiotic resistant bacteria....
