Answers:

My doctor will give me a prescription even if I don't have an outbreak. I just ran out of my medication (acyclovir) a few months ago and she went ahead a gave me another years worth refill. I didn't even have to go in a see her.

If you have been diagnosed with genital herpes you should ALWAYS be able to get a refill, even without seeing the doctor. Herpes is for life, it's not like it's going anywhere. You should always have anti viral medication like Valtrex or acyclovir on hand just in case you have an outbreak.

Also, Valtrex helps prevent outbreaks and helps speed up the healing process. You can't "wait too long" when it comes to herpes. It's always going to be there. So, it doesn't matter if you take it as soon as you think you are getting an outbreak or even days into the outbreak. It'll work just the same. It's not like other STDs that can cause health problems if not treated in time.

See a different doctor if they won't prescribe you medication. There is NO reason you should have to wait till you get an outbreak if you have been diagnosed with genital hepes.
