When did so many people start becoming allergic to...everything?!

Question:

When did so many people start becoming allergic to...everything?

I had a large group of friends and classmates as a child--and never heard of anyone being allergic to anything but grass, etc. (hayfever).

Now people can't eat wheat, peanuts, milk, soy...the list goes on...

Not to mention that every kind of makeup and other beauty product has a hypo-allergenic formula. When did all this happen...and why?

Robin -- My circle of friends and myself were all baby-boomers, and all bottle fed. As I said, we were not allergic to any foods.

Answers:

hahaha I'm one of the few in my classes without allergies... seriously. And now everyone needs glasses too, and everyone has some kind of condition.

I think people may just be looking for things like allergies more than they used to. It's not just a cold anymore, its "allergies"
