When did salmonella, so many food recalls, the danger of undercooked ground meat!

Question:

When did salmonella, so many food recalls, the danger of undercooked ground meat become so common?

We ate everything as kids--even raw ground meat; raw cookie dough--and did not get ill, or die. Why is there so much more bacteria these days?
If anything, you would think modern technology (and the FDA) would have made foods safer than ever before...

Answers:

BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO BRING OUR CHILDREN UP IN A STERILE ENVIRONMENT, GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN A CHILD DROPPED A SWEET ON THE GROUND AND PICKED IT UP AND ATE IT, IF THIS WAS STILL ALLOWED AMONG SEVERAL OTHER THINGS WE NO LONGER ALLOW OUR CHILDREN TO DO, WE WOULD INADVERTENTLY BE BUILDING UP THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEMS. SO IT IS OUR SOCIETY THAT WE LIVE IN THAT HAS CAUSED SO MANY DISEASES. AS FOR RAW MEAT AND RAW COOKIE DOUGH IT IS THE GOVERNMENT WHO SAY THAT WE CANT EAT IT. PROBABLY BECAUSE IT NOW COMES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD AND GIVING US DISEASES THAT WE NEVER EVER NEW EXISTED, AS THEY SAY THE WORLD IS NOW YOUR OYSTER.
